About American Hospital Istanbul
Established by Admiral Mark L. Bristol in 1920, American Hospital Istanbul began as Turkey's first non-profit private hospital, initially supported by the American Red Cross. Originally located in a wooden mansion in Istanbul's historical peninsula, the hospital moved to its current Nişantaşı location in 1939. In 1995, the Vehbi Koç Foundation assumed ownership, investing over $300 million in renovations and infrastructure. Today, the hospital boasts over 300 physicians across 38 specialties, treating more than 220,000 patients and performing over 10,000 surgeries annually. It holds multiple accreditations, including Joint Commission International (JCI) and ISO certifications, reflecting its commitment to high-quality healthcare services.
