| Format Description | The Manufacturing Track of the BYU Mechanical Engineering Capstone Program offers organizations the opportunity to collaborate with a senior engineering team on real-world challenges focused on production systems, factory layout, automation, quality control, and cost reduction. This is a hands-on, year-long consulting engagement that results in tangible process improvements, documentation, and implementation-ready recommendations. Projects are supported by both faculty advisors and experienced industry coaches.

Sponsorship Fee: Approximately $22,000 per project, which covers materials, tools, staff support, and access to BYU facilities
Project Scope: Sponsors will define a design challenge/problem statement with faculty to ensure appropriate scope
Coaching Role: A project coach is provided by BYU, but sponsoring organization should provide a technical liaison
Project Fit: Projects must include open-ended design and engineering work—not maintenance or repetitive tasks
IP Rights: Sponsors retain rights to the deliverables and intellectual property created
Participation: Sponsors are encouraged to attend mid-year reviews and the final Capstone Design Fair presentation
