| About Students |
The AI Foundry team includes approximately 30 builders working in mixed teams across product, engineering, deals, marketing, finance, and design. Each engagement is staffed from this broader bench so that strategy, product evaluation, technical build, quality control, and handoff are integrated into one project team. The program is led by Scott Murff, a former McKinsey & Company consultant, and delivered by a bench of MBAs and undergraduate engineers. The RFP describes the model as combining “MBB-caliber thinking” with AI-accelerated pricing, supported by students with capabilities across product, finance, design, AI tooling, product evaluation, quality control, and applied AI coursework. Students carry academic credit through the AI Foundry Lab, cross-listed as MBA 693R and STRAT 490R. Every engagement has faculty oversight, with product evaluation and quality control built into the Foundry model as a named function rather than an afterthought.

| Format Description | The BYU Marriott AI Foundry is an official program of the BYU Marriott School of Business designed to help industry partners identify, build, and transfer ownership of practical AI-enabled products and workflows. The program positions itself as “an AI-native product studio and consultancy,” with a focus on building AI products rather than only advising on strategy. The Foundry supports three primary types of engagements: • Full-Stack Applications: Net-new web and mobile applications, including customer-facing products, B2B products, and internal line-of-business systems. • AI Integration and Orchestration: AI wired into existing systems, including agents and copilots that work against company data, workflow automations, and document processing, extraction, routing, and summarization. • AI Enablement and Training: Training and co-working support that helps partner teams learn to build with frontier agent tooling, agentic workflow systems, and the same tools used during the engagement. Engagements are structured around a clear sequence: audit and discovery, build, and transfer. During audit and discovery, the team identifies where AI can create practical value, which products are worth building, and which workflows are worth automating. During the build phase, the team builds and ships working software, not just a report or prototype. During transfer, the Foundry co-works with the partner’s team and hands off ownership so the capability remains in-house after the engagement. The strongest projects are those with a real business problem, an answer that is not already fully specified, and something concrete to ship at the end. Strong fits include net-new or rebuilt applications, workflow automation, agents or copilots over company data, AI integration into existing systems, AI audits, and enablement around real company codebases or workflows.

| Other Requirements | Participating organizations should be prepared to: • Assign a single point of contact with authority to answer scope questions • Hold a standing weekly call of 30 to 45 minutes • Provide data and systems access early, including any necessary accounts • Answer decision requests raised in weekly updates within one week • Participate in phase reviews • Accept public recognition as a partner unless anonymity is requested Partners should also be prepared to clarify confidentiality expectations, provision approved tools or repositories, and support project handoff. The RFP states that partners retain full rights to deliverables, code, models, and documentation, and that every student signs the partner’s NDA or the Foundry’s standard mutual NDA before receiving data.
